Improving sleep may be the best thing you can do not only for your health but to get ahold of mindless snacking and over eating. When you are tired from not getting enough sleep your brain is craving stimulation…energy.
Study after study has proven that when someone is sleep deprived or not getting enough sleep they tend to eat, snack, and consume more sugary substances.
Sugary substance aren’t satiating so that can lead to more over eating.
I have worked diligently for years on my sleep and still struggle to get enough time and great quality sleep. With that said, I still work on creating habits and routines to give me the best chance possible to have a restful nights sleep. Progress is the focus, not perfection.
Perhaps the thing that has made the biggest difference for me is the timing of my last meal. If I can eat 3 to 4 hours before I turn in I have a significantly better nights sleep.
I could rattle off 10 more tips for you really quick but I want to encourage you to take a look at the logistics of your life and try to get your last meal in 3 to 4 hours before bed. Take a look at your habits of how you “finish the day”. Shuffling around some things to ensure you get that meal in as far away from bed time as possible is worth it.
Improving sleep duration and quality will help minimize snacking and overeating and will give you the energy needed to put into workouts, family and your vocation.
Sleep improvement can be a super power and it’s very much in your control.
If anyone knows how difficult improving sleep is I promise you it’s me.
I want to remind you, that you are capable, and I believe in you.
If you need help, reach out. I’d be happy to share all of the things I do to get a respectable nights sleep.
I’m out
